Fifteen years after she taught psychology courses and oversaw standardized testing at Bethune-Cookman College, Linda Bradley will be coming back to Daytona Beach to lead the University of Central Florida’s campus there.

Bradley, who has held a variety of higher education leadership positions during her 28-year career, will become the new assistant vice president and director of UCF's Daytona Beach campus on Monday, April 30.

Bradley has worked extensively with universities and community colleges in Tennessee for the past 11 years as associate executive director of the Tennessee Higher Education Commission, the coordinating body for 51 public colleges, universities and technology centers. She reviewed and made recommendations on whether to approve new academic programs and evaluated and helped to improve existing ones. She also analyzed legislation and worked on several regional academic initiatives.

Bradley previously worked as staff director for the Florida House of Representatives' Committee on Higher Education from 1995 to 1996 and as an assistant dean at Vanderbilt University's Graduate School from 1992 to 1995. As an assistant professor and director of testing at Bethune-Cookman from 1989 to 1992, Bradley taught courses in psychology and human growth and development.

"The breadth of Linda's experience in higher education and her familiarity with the region will serve UCF well as we grow to meet the needs of Volusia and Flagler county residents," said Dave Harrison, vice provost for UCF's Regional Campuses.

Harrison added that Bradley's success in building partnerships with universities and community colleges in Tennessee will help UCF expand its relationships with Bethune-Cookman, Daytona Beach Community College, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Stetson University.

UCF Daytona, which shares a campus with DBCC, serves more than 1,100 students and offers 21 undergraduate and eight graduate degree programs. Bernard Jensen, the previous assistant vice president and director of the Daytona campus, moved to a central position with UCF's regional campuses as assistant vice president and executive director of academic initiatives.

Bradley said she's looking forward to enhancing UCF Daytona's programs and starting new ones that will help more students get an affordable, flexible and high-quality education close to home.

"I'm glad to be back in Volusia County," Bradley said. "I look forward to preparing our students to serve the community as teachers, nurses and law enforcement officers and to become successful businesspeople who will help the economy flourish."

Bradley holds a doctoral degree in Higher Education Administration from Florida State University, a master's degree in Student Personnel Administration from the University of Tennessee and a bachelor's degree in Sociology/Social Welfare from St. Augustine's College in Raleigh, N.C.
