  • Rita Simpson

    a program assistant at the Sophomore & Second Year Center, is October’s USPS Employee of the Month. “Ms. Simpson has demonstrated on numerous occasions her dependability to the office, helpfulness and caring conveyed to student customers,” said her co-workers in their nominations. Simpson won a Barnes & Noble gift card, an introduction to UCF's Board of Trustees, UCF apparel and more.

  • Two UCF teams

    placed in the top five out of 20 teams at the Southeast Regional Ethics Bowl. The team that finished in second place featured students Rose Crutcher, Alex Kaplan, Ross Harrison, Evan Mateer and Jay Shannon. The coaches were Nancy Stanlick, Michael Strawser and Madi Dogariu. The second-place team advances to compete in a national ethics bowl in Cincinnati.

  • The UCF Tax Team

    recently won third place in the graduate division of the 8th Annual Deloitte Tax Case Study Competition. Team members included Wendy Flynn, Justin Knox, Lauren Pryor and Rachel Weisman. Each student received $500, and the Kenneth G. Dixon School of Accounting received $2,500. Find out more here.

  • Kimberly Voss

    an assistant professor of Journalism in the Nicholson School of Communication, has been awarded one of four grants by the American Journalism Historians Association. Voss’ grant will support a multimedia encyclopedia for the teaching and research of women in journalism history.

  • Jervia Fickens

    a UCF Graduate Nursing Student, was awarded a Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal in a campus ceremony Oct. 15. The award honors Fickens' achievements as a clinical nurse manager at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Va., July 2005 - July 2009. He was honored for managerial ability, personal initiative and collaborative work that led to more than 100 infants receiving frenectomies to improve their ability to feed. Fickens is an active duty Lieutenant in the Navy Nurse Corps.

  • Drew Shott and Jason Curtis

    were honored as UCF's student veterans of the Miami game on Saturday. Shott served four years in the Navy and worked mostly as a firefighter and welder. Curtis, the founder of UCF's Student Veterans Association chapter, served in the Army and was part of the first force across the border in Baghdad to penetrate Saddam Hussein's regime. Both students received several military medals and ribbons.

  • UCF alumnus Danny Daneau's

    MFA Film thesis, "The Attic Door," won top honors at the Bend Film Festival in Oregon. The film received awards for "Best Cinematography," "Best Feature" and "Best Score." To learn more about the movie, click here. UCF's graduate film program is the first in the country to require its students to create and raise the money for a feature-length film.

  • Lillian Ramos

    a program area liaison in the Department of Education, Research, Technology & Leadership is September's USPS Employee of the Month. "Lillian is a new faculty member's dream. Her assistance helped to ease my transition to the department," said one of her co-workers in nominating her. Ramos won a Barnes & Noble gift card, an introduction to UCF's Board of Trustees, UCF apparel and more. 

  • Stephen Holmes

    associate professor of Criminal Justice, ranks 12th among the nation's top-producing authors of books on criminal justice, according to a recent article in Southwest Journal of Criminal Justice. Overall UCF ranks 10th among the nation's top-producing institutions of books on criminal justice according to the same article.  

  • Susan Wegmann

    an assistant professor in the College of Education was selected to receive the national 2009 Sloane-C award of Excellence in Online Teaching. Leaders in higher education selected her from a list of exceptional nominees. She will receive her award in October for designing highly innovative online environments that reach and challenge students.
